Only after reading the book did I learn who Peterson is. I don’t support his views at all. This 2018 book though is much more moderate than he is now. Let me summarise and then explain…

  1. Stand up tall — you have the power to change your life
  2. You are responsible to yourself
  3. Be friends with those who want the best for you
  4. Only compare yourself to you — focus on your improvement only
  5. Don’t let your kids “do anything that makes your dislike them” — your job as a parent is to help them integrate into society
  6. “Set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world.”
  7. Pursue what is meaningful — and know sharing is important
  8. Tell the truth — lies accumulate
  9. Assume you are listening to someone that knows something you don’t — you can always learn, so long as it is the right conversation
  10. Be precise in your speech — think before speaking
  11. Don’t bother skateboarding children — let people push their limits
  12. Pet a cat when you see one on the street — enjoy and share love

Rule 1: Stand up tall.

The more you believe you are in control, the better you tend to do.
