Only after reading the book did I learn who Peterson is. I don’t support his views at all. This 2018 book though is much more moderate than he is now. Let me summarise and then explain…
- Stand up tall — you have the power to change your life
- You are responsible to yourself
- Be friends with those who want the best for you
- Only compare yourself to you — focus on your improvement only
- Don’t let your kids “do anything that makes your dislike them” — your job as a parent is to help them integrate into society
- “Set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world.”
- Pursue what is meaningful — and know sharing is important
- Tell the truth — lies accumulate
- Assume you are listening to someone that knows something you don’t — you can always learn, so long as it is the right conversation
- Be precise in your speech — think before speaking
- Don’t bother skateboarding children — let people push their limits
- Pet a cat when you see one on the street — enjoy and share love
Rule 1: Stand up tall.
The more you believe you are in control, the better you tend to do.
